A waterfront railway connects downtown with the riverbank entertainment to our financial district and lake front museums, Coast Guard Station, and Lake Front Airport. Transferring at the downtown station will take you to the East side museums, or the West side International Airport.

The tug boats job is done, it has pulled the ship to the mouth of the river, docking it next to our under lake salt mines. From here the ship can proceed past our break walls to the ocean shipping channels.

This barge waited at the mouth of the river for over an hour because the large ship was blocking most of the crooked river as it was being towed to the lake.

The coast near the lake is lined with rocks to prevent erosion. Over the last few decades the level of the Great Lakes has risen and erosion of the shoreline can be a big problem.

This was a difficult shot pre-9/11 and an impossible one now. In the old days the pilots would do pre-flight checks with their cabin door open, but they were pretty serious about no electric devices. I grabbed my camera out of my case with a fast f2.8 medium telephoto, leaned into the isle and took my shot without flash. If I had been allowed I would have used a monopod to steady the shot.
